So I had a thought. About Cerdian.

In case y'all don't know, "sea-changed" is a term from aquaman lore. It refers to atlanteans who are mutated by their environment. As if their adaptations developed differently from the standard "human-passing" people of Poseidonis. Think like Lagoon Boy, or King Shark sometimes.

The term was technically only established in the rebirth run, but the idea is much older then that. Obviously. Lagoon Boy is from the 90s. They live in the slums outside of the capital city.

But what does this have to do with Cerdian? Well, his mother is the character Dolphin!

Originally, she was a human experimented on by aliens, given abilities similar to atlanteans. But in rebirth, she was retconned to a Sea changed atlantean. Her hands and feet are covered in blue scales, and she's got claws and webbed fingers and toes. But she has this camouflage ability to look human.

She can also produce bright flashes of light, and write in the water with her light like little neon signs (helpful because she's mute again).

Now, of course Cerdian was created before the reboot. As were most of the fan works he's used in. So this wouldn't have been on anyone's mind.

But now he's Canon again. Sorta.

So now I'm wondering... if his mom is sea changed, would Cerdian also be? Or his sister Tula (if she exists in yalls AUs)?

Tula already has a weird then-unexplained green scaly arm in kingdom come. (Though, some sources say she shape-shifts. Either way, theres no explanation).

What if Cerdian has webbed fingers and toes. Scales on his hands and feet, or in other places he's embarrassed about. Weird little fins. Hell, he could even have Dolphin's camouflage ability to hide these weirder features when he feels its necessary.

And I'm also reminded of Teen Titans year one, where Garth has gray skin for some reason.

Maybe Cerdian's scales are gray. Could also be an excuse for abilities completely unique to him, rather then those inherited from his parents. Or he could have Dolphin's rebirth abilities in addition to Garth's magic.

I feel completely heartbroken to have found out that Ramona Fradon has died at the age of 97.

The first sketch I was ever able to purchase from that talented, wonderful woman was of Cerdian, the son of Tempest and Dolphin, due to Ramona being Garth's co-creator. The outfit was designed by @numbersoftoday

Finally getting around to reading recommended reading for Garth and I forgot how bad sidekicks could get the “treat them like Robin” in the 60’s and 70’s and the “make a female that is like totally into him who he doesn’t return affection for and the “everyone is horny, it’s the 90’s baby!,” cause he is getting hit with a lot of these. His personality changed based on the story being told and I really hate it.

So Dolphin, Who is also an Atlantian and is now with Garth aka Tempest...uh the first Aqualad, Who also has a kid, But thats not important. I was looking up things as you do saw Dolphin and noticed the art style looked familiar to me. Did some research and boom its the creator or Harleen aka Stjepan Šejić (read Harleen its so good) who is also married to Linda Šejić who created Punderworld and Blood Stain two web comics I am a fan of...I love both their works they make such good stuff. Enough Gushing about artist! I was really digging the look of Dolphin and while drawing her I noticed something from another Dolphin, okay Dolphine from Wonder Woman and the Star Riders...its came out in like 93, Dolphine has a skirt that has like netting and I thought it would be a cool addition to the outfit, making it look like fishing net or something. I thought it would look cool to be honest. Also Atlantis retro futuristic my fave looks for buildings. As for coloring oh dang this took like -checks clock- 8 hours? 10 hours? I don't know I was just trying to make it look really nice underwater and not muddled, which I like to think looks nice, and I got it right...I did a lot of work...I need something simple for a breather.
